cloudsWhat would summer be without idleness.  Sven Berkirts’ peripatetic essay in praise of idleness, “The Mother of Possibility”, is a reminder of the need for what Walt Whitman called ‘loafing’ not as an instrumental act, a recharge of the batteries, but as a state of being on par with industry as a human value.  For the practitioner of the liberal art of reading, it is sweet piece of writing.
