Dr. Mary Miller on the Jim Wayne Miller Celebration of Writing

The 18th Annual Jim Wayne Miller Celebration of Writing is this weekend at the Augenstein Alumni Center starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. I interviewed Dr. Mary Ellen Miller, one of WKU’s longest serving professors about the upcoming event. I want to thank Dr. Miller for her time and her speedy responses. Also, for some humor and to display the importance of proofreading emails to professors, I included a typo from the original email.

Jacky Killian: What does it mean to be an English professor to you?

Dr. Mary Ellen Miller: Everything.

Jacky: What was Jim Wayne Miller?

Dr. Miller: Don’t you mean who was Jim Wayne Miller? Come to Sunday’s event at 2 p.m. [November the 9th] in the Alumni Center and find out.

Jacky: Why did you begin the Jim Wayne Miller Celebration of Writing?

Dr. Miller: To honor my recently deceased husband, Jim Wayne Miller, and to bring attention to the importance of creative writing.

Jacky: Why have you remained at WKU for over 5 decades?

Dr. Miller: So I could be here to be interviewed by you.

Jacky: What is your favorite experience on the Hill?

Dr. Miller: Far too many to choose one.

Jacky: What kind of advice do you want to offer students?

Dr. Miller: Get more sleep.
