Writers needed to help fifth-graders with creative writing

Category: Community of English Practice, Fun, General — angela.jones @ 5:21 pm

From a faculty-all, staff-all, and student-all email…just in case anyone overlooked it…. (Minorly edited for style.)

Kaleidoscope Youth in Art , a WKU grant-funded program, is looking for WRITING STUDENTS willing to volunteer at the Parker Bennett Elementary School on Mondays for our 5th grade Creative Writing class. Kaleidoscope is working with three Parker Bennett fifth grade classes in the area of Creative Writing. Our Mentoring Artist, Bonny McDonald is instructing the classes, hosting over 55 students.

This program is a part of Kaleidoscope’s Outreach initiative connecting to local youth serving agencies to provide an arts-integrated curriculum. Our mission is to transform youth and community through arts and activism. Each student journals weekly on the lesson of the day. Bonny needs assistance responding to the youth journals, correcting grammar and spelling, and complimenting the work completed.

If you would like to assist in helping young people discover the world of language, the power in vocabulary and the freedom in expression please contact Lauren Cunningham, Kaleidoscope Program Director at lauren.cunningham@wku.edu.
